Inis MeŠin isnít for everybody. If you get bored easily, need shopping centres and burgers, panic when you have no connection for your mobile phone or donít like walking it is not the place for youÖ
Wander aimlessly or choose one of the three loop-walks on the island. You can follow the walled roads, circle the uninhabited back side of the island, look for shells on the beach, visit the forts and the churches . The tiny fields give the impression of a maze, but you canít get lost.

A cycle around the island is a lovely, leisurely way to take it all in, whether youíre aiming for solitude or to visit some of the islandís attractions. Bike hire Tel: +353 (0)851509505

Flora and fauna
The Aran Islands have a surprising variety of flora due to their unique climate and geological characteristics. Inis MeŠin boasts over 300 species of plants , from Artic to Alpine to Mediterranean. There is fauna to match. Bird watchers will be delighted with the variety of birds found on the islands; everything from kestrels to plovers to puffins. The Aran Islands also have an endemic species of bumblebee. At the coast you might see otters, seals, dolphins and even, if you are very, lucky whale sharks.

Crystal clear waters will invite you to take a dip. You can swim at the old pier and at the beach. Ask the locals when and where it is safe to swim, as there are strong tides and currents.

There is a shop in the village for food and other necessities, the post-office is located there. There is no ATM on the island but you can pay for goods with card at the shop now (Siopa RuaidhrŪ Beag) and can get cashback also. The shop is open every day. Also, you can withdraw money at the PO if you have an AIB account.

The Inis MeŠin knitting company produces hi-end knitwear in wonderful fabrics. Stop by at the factory shop to purchase a unique souvenir.

Take a break at Juda's little craft shop on the road to the old pier for handmade knitting, island souvenirs, crafts, postcards and pictures of the island and Inis Mešin sliver Jewels. She will tell you all you want to know about the island.

Have a drink and a chat at the pub. Youíll find it easy to make contact with other visitors and islanders and learn more about this special place.
